Why is Encore Boston Harbor resort and casino in the process of taking on 5,000 new employees? The Everett casino is slated to open June 23rd, a $2.5 billion project sanctioned by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. Will approval, however, become final?
The commission could backtrack on its position pending the results of an on-going investigation. There are issues with owner Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts. He has been accused of sexual misconduct, the outcome of which could severely hamper the new project. The Massachusetts investigators may receive damaging documents and Wynn has filed suit, claiming attorney-client privilege.
State gaming commission members could have access to these reports shortly and will likely schedule a follow-up hearing. Wynn Resorts executives will testify as part of the decision-making process. A deal is in the works regarding transference of the said documents.
Commission Chair, Cathy Judd-Stein maintains,
“Commissioners also required assurance from the investigators that the resolution would guarantee access to all of the substantive information necessary for us to make a fully informed decision about the suitability of Wynn Resorts.”
