Arsenal have reached an agreement with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux for the sale of Lorient Koscielny.
It is understood that Koscielny did not want to stay at the Emirates despite manager Unai Emery persuading him on many occasions to stay. The France international even refused to go with the team on their pre-season tour in the United States this summer.
Koscielny is reportedly in France for a medical before completing a £4.6m to Bordeaux. Having spent nine years in London, he initially wanted to leave on a free transfer but the club refused to entertain such idea.
The 33-year-old’s wish was to join Rennes but the two clubs could not agree on a decent fee.
Arsenal are now said to be on the hunt for a central defender before the transfer window closes on Thursday. Some of the names mentioned include RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Juventus’ Daniele Rugani.
