Tuesday night at Angels Stadium, both benches cleared after Angels’ reliever Noe Ramirez hit Jake Marisnick with a pitsch. Nine days earlier, Marisnick had collided with Jonathan Lucroy at a plate in Houston. The hit, together with the earlier collision has resulted in a fractured nose that requires surgery.
Noe Ramirez, together with Angels’ manager, maintained that the hit was an accidental. However, Astros manager AJ Hinch took his stand and was angry that Ramirez was not expelled.
Ramirez hit Marisnick with a 89.6 mph fastball high around his left shoulder to lead off the sixth. He threw two sliders before hitting Marisnick with a 1-1 fastball.
When Marisnick went to the first base, Albert Pujols appeared to remember something said in Astros dugout, and the two sides started throwing words at each other. Pujols refused to comment about the situation after the game.
The good thing is that the situation didn’t escalate to a physical one. Marisnick tried to deescalate the situation by yelling at their teammates to get back to their dugout.
