The PGA Tour CJ Cup golf broadcasts will now be incorporated into the live betting odds provided by Tour partner BetMGM.
For its part, Bet365 recently launched a very attractive new in-game golf betting product.
This week’s Golf Channel broadcasts of The CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek will feature live betting odds offered by BetMGM, as announced by the PGA Tour. For the first time, the Tour allows live betting to be promoted on its TV broadcasts.
During the Wyndham Championship in August, the Tour tested the integration on its digital platforms. That same month, the Tour and BetMGM officially signed a betting association.
PGA Tour Senior Vice President of Media and Games Norb Gambuzza commented that the goal of the betting associations is to engage fans in new and creative ways. He added that the Tour hopes to learn from the experiences with his CJ Cup experiment.
On a twice-hourly basis, BetMGM will offer leaderboards that include ‘open’ and ‘current’ odds on the winner of the tournament. Also head-to-head odds as well as margin of victory, top scores, holes-in-one, playoffs, and cable-to-cable winner.
According to BetMGM’s Chief Marketing Officer Matt Prevost, his company’s choice to carry the Tour’s broadcast betting “speaks to the innovative nature of our partnership.” He noted that he would continue to “move the needle” hand in hand with the Tour to generate similar “great content.”
Bet365, on the other hand, recently launched a Live Golf Tracker right during the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Tour. This rival BetMGM product based on live tracking data obtained from IMG Arena, provides “real-time take-to-shot data and interactive course views” to its customers.
Through the Live Golf Tracker tool, bettors can visually track “every drive, iron and putt of their favorite player or favorite groups”. Also the ability to switch between individual scorecards, as well as the tournament ranking. The comments on the networks about the product have been very favorable.
In addition, Tracker will broadcast live two-hole par 3 tournaments that will be selected daily to offer a “true field experience.” Aside from the Tour, IMG has entered into various broadcasting agreements with various sports leagues such as the UFC, NHL, European soccer, and tennis tournaments.
In 2018, it was also the official distributor of betting data for the Tour. And last year it expanded this deal to include bookmakers in the United States. IMG also jointly launched with Leap Gaming a virtual betting division.
