Casino developer and Colorado native Bruce Deifik died in a single-car crash in Denver while he was driving home from a Colorado Rockies game.
Deifik previously owned Atlantic City casino Ocean Resort and sunk much of his personal fortune into renovating the resort. Deifik was working to sell his majority ownership in the struggling venture to Luxor Capital.
“We are saddened to learn that Bruce Deifik, former owner of Ocean Resort Casino, has passed away,”
said casino spokeswoman Diane Spiers according to the Associated Press.
“The Ocean family is grateful for Bruce having the vision to reopen this beautiful oceanfront property and employing over 3,000 members of our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
Ocean Resort was losing millions of dollars a month, and a trustee will temporarily take over the business until the transfer to Luxor is completed.
Deifik was scheduled to appear before New Jersey gaming regulators at a hearing about allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against the casino developer.
