Chelsea Set to Loan Out Up to Eight Players

The Blues could loan out as many as eight players as they were sent to London from their pre-season tour.

The eight returning to Cobham facility from Ireland include: Lucas Piazon, Izzy Brown, Lewis Baker, Trevoh Chalobah, Ike Ugboh, Dujon Sterling, Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher.

All the above featured in Lampard’s first game in charge against Bohemians after which the manager criticised the team’s fitness. Six of them were on loan last season.

Baker had a successful time at Reading while Brown only featured twice in all competitions for Leeds due to injury.

But Brazilian Piazon saw his Seria A side Chievo Verona relegated to the second division. Chalobah featured consistently for Ipswich, Ugbo for Scunthorpe and Sterling for Coventry. Elsewhere, Guehi and Gallagher played in the England U-23 side.

Despite Chelsea’s transfer ban, none of the eight were likely to be part of Lampard’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

The Blues expect Christian Pulisic and Willian to return from international duty with the USA and Brazil respectively to bolster the squad.

Willian played an important role in is his nation’s Copa America victory though he missed the final against Peru due to a hamstring injury.

Pulisic featured in the US’ 1-0 defeat to Mexico in the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and he won the Best Young Player of the tournament. He also scored twice in the semis against Jamaica.

Chelsea have two fixtures in Japan plus a friendly against Barcelona in 10 days’ time.
