American David Benefield won the 2019 Triton Poker Super High Roller of the London series £ 25,000 ($ 31,475 USD). The 33-year-old professional poker player defeated a total of 108 entries to secure this first Live Short-Deck No-Limit Hold’em tournament title and get the top prize of £ 650,000 ($ 793,000 USD).
Apart from the title and the fabulous prize, Benefield earned 840 Player of the Year points from the Card Player by being crowned champion of the event. This is his second final table this year, after last March he was fourth in a short deck event that was played for $ 210,600 and 252 points.
Benefield said he has only one year playing short deck, after his online raid and arrival at Triton stops. This is his first absolute title in his poker career in a live tournament; He also won a second prize of $ 944,650 for finishing eighth during the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event.
The nickname of ‘Raptor’ with which Benefield built his rough online reputation, lives up to his fierce game. Lately, his attention has been focused on Short-Deck No-Limit Hold’em tournaments, such as the London Triton.
The first time he participated was in the Triton in Jeju (South Korena), where he finished 4/65 at a HKD 250,000 purchase event that was played for $ 206,414. With the victory of London he climbed another three steps to climb to the top of Event # 6 (London) for £ 25,000 No-Limit Hold’em Short-Deck.
After his victories in his short scores in the deck, the American is now ranked No. 271 in the POY 2019 race classification, which is sponsored by Global Poker.
After achieving his victory, Benefield declared to the press referring to the event as “an emotional roller coaster, but that is short. You keep going inside. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.”
