Finally there was a winner in the WPT Borgata Poker Open $ 3,500 Championship, after five intense days of exciting play. The American Donald Maloney claimed a fabulous prize of 487 thousand dollars and the first title of the WPT.
After the triumph Maloney, a former hockey player was able to overcome the stacked final table and obtained the Borgata Poker Open of $ 3,500. With 1,156 tickets throughout the tournament the native of Glendale, Arizona, won the veteran Dave Farah and Victor Ramdin.
Then a stalker Kevin Albers kept a good number of Farah’s tokens, but he stayed on his feet. Farah opened first blindly which allowed Albers to make three bets. While Victor Ramdin with pocket kings moved all-in, however, Albers had an eight of diamonds, then threw a 9 on the flop, a 7 on the turn and a 10 on the river, which made Ramdin stumble.
Albers gained a sustained momentum and the other players were finding their positions in the game. Farah had to settle for fourth place for $ 227 thousand. On the last day of the tournament, there were six players chasing the trophy, but in the end there were only Donald Maloney, Uke Dauti and Kevin Albers, who reached an agreement.
After determining the adjusted payments, the only thing left was the trophy, so they decided to continue blindly for the title. But a crowded and sure Maloney continued his progress until he took down the aspirations of his two opponents and crowned himself with the WPT title for $ 471,249.
Maloney referred to his previous career and about his future plans:
“I feel that hockey and poker are my two best talents,” he said. “I still skate all the time and they are my two biggest hobbies. I would like to return to hockey at some point if I can. I don’t have to hurt myself to start a year once, it would be fun. Other than that, I would like to enter management potentially as my father did.”
He finally said that “poker is great and I love playing tournaments, I plan to return and I hope to return to the winners circle.”
