Sports Betting operators DraftKings and BetMGM have deepened their ties with the pro-sports franchises respectively with Chicago and Detroit.
DraftKings announced a deal with Major League Baseball’s Chicago Club. DraftKings is now the official sports betting and daily fantasy partner of the club. The multi-year deal includes branding and marketing opportunities as well. However, the best part of the deal is to have a sportsbook at the Wrigley Field ballpark of the Club. The new partners mentioned that the plan is to have such a first-of-its-kind sportsbook for different level customer experience and engagement in Illinois.
The online betting access for the fans will be available within a five-block radius of the stadium, thanks to the deal.
Illinois has legalized the betting market. However, to open a new sportsbook, one needs the approval of the City of Chicago. Chicago is known for the slow pace of civic politics, this might take a few years. However, due to the pandemic, the fans are not allowed to enter the stadium. By the time, the gates are open for the fans, the stadium might get approval. However, it needs to be pursued continuously by the club management for that to happen. The new sportsbook will require at least a $10mn betting license from Illinois Gaming Board.
The on-sports betting site has become the new trend in the US Sports Betting market. William Hill launched a sportsbook at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC. Denver Broncos have two deals for the site sportsbooks at Empower Field, Mile High, with Betfred and with BetMGM.
BetMGM also signed a deal to be the first official sports betting partner of NFL’s Detroit Lions. This is an extension of the MGM Resort’s existing marketing relationship with the club. BetMGM will now get exposure at the home field of the Lion’s and on the free-play predictive app of the team.
MGM Resorts signed a deal with Lion’s to build a special fan zone at the Ford Field in 2015, four years before Michigan authorized legal sports betting.
