The first round of futures betting for the Kentucky Derby races ended with very good results. For Group 1 the bets were opened on November 29 running Monday night and achieving a fabulous collection for the popular horse race, although perhaps a little less than some expected.
More than $ 284,000 was placed in the winning group with a category, “All other three-year-old foals and jellies,” which turned out to be the favorite. Of all the individual options that were presented, none obtained better odds of 10-1. This means that none of the candidates has overwhelming support.
The winner of the Champagne Stakes (G1) 2019 in Belmont Park, Tiz the Law, closed the stakes with 11-1 after last Saturday suffered a defeat at the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) in Churchill Downs. This horse started with a probability of 8-1.
Dennis’ Moment, remained in line. The winner of the Iroquois Stakes (G3) race won 12-1. While the other two that followed him had a probability of 13-1. They were the foal Independence Hall, with good performance in the bets of Nashua (G3), and Maxfield, winner of Breeders’ Futurity (G1).
Then came the Structor horse, winner of American Pharoah (G1) Structor and breeder of the Turf Youth Cup (G1). The two animals closed bets with odds of 24-1.
The American Pharoah was run at the Santa Anita Park racecourse, where there have been a series of unexpected horse deaths and much commented on in the news this year. Also in Churchill Downs players can bet on who the possible father of the winner of the next Kentucky Derby.
The Constitution horse, the father of the winners Tiz and Independence Hall, was the one who opened bets 4-1 closing at 5-1. It was followed by another winning copy, American Pharoah, with a name similar to the race track. In 2014, this horse won the 2014 Triple Crown, the 2015 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year and 2015 three-year Champion. The odds of being the father of the next Kentucky Derby winner are 12-1.
Last year the amount of bets in the first group before the Derby was run exceeded $ 290k, of this $ 259k went to futures bets, according to data provided by Churchill Downs.
The increase in bets this year indicates that the acceptance of bets in all sporting events that are held, a trend that will continue in 2020 as well. The punters who could not participate in the first group will be another three rounds in February, March and April, just before the Derby runs in May.
