Fans were excited about Galfond Challenge in 2020. It was one of the biggest excitements in Poker but no longer. Galfond took to microblogging site Twitter and confirmed that he is hanging up his mouse for uncertain time. The decision came after a horrid run for Galfond. The Run It Once owner lost €900,000 in just 15 seasons.

In his statement, Galfond explained that it is the time to take a break and then regroup. He recognized this time as his downswing as well. He reaffirmed that even a few days back he was taking his unfortunate run quite proudly and he said he believed that he played well. He mentioned that after almost endless losing streak he won €88K and that gave him good confidence. He was excited about the future as well after the win.

He continued that right after that game he faced his biggest loss of €268K but he still managed to stay proud of his game. However, he mentioned that he can no longer say the same thing about his game now. He said that now in his last two sessions he abandoned his game plans and he could not really gather his thoughts.

He further explained that he was scared and expecting defeat. Talking about the defeat, he said that he could not get his brain work properly. Galfond said that during the downswing, the loss of money isn’t the worst, but the loss of hope is. He further explained his situation and said that it is the gap between the results and expectations. He put the numbers and said that even though he might have lost €900K but in reality, he has lost more than that. He painfully accepted that question comes whether he would win again or not.
He said that he kept his composure during the loss and any win would give the confidence to look towards the future. However, he has been forced to think that it is not going to happen. He admitted that his hopes were replaced by depressions. Galfond said that he has now found the limits of his mind.

He did mention the public challenge and said that he started with high stakes. It could be continuous intense poker and study or something else that made him unable to play his best game, he told in his statement.

He continued in his long post that it was difficult to stand with C game against the A game of Venividi. He admitted that it feels awful for him to accept the defeat in the challenge. However, he knows that playing poorly against a quality opponent is equally painful.

On his future plans, he said that he would like to see whether he can get his head back before making any big decision. He said that Venivedi and he had six challenge sessions this month due to travel plans. He admitted that he needs to take time and think about the next challenge on March 1. Galfond admitted that he needs time to decide whether he can continue the challenge or he should move on to other challenges.

Mentioning about his win/loss ratio this year of 1-12-2, Galfond told that he understands that it would be painful for many of his fans to watch. However, he is hopeful that he would come back and put up a good show again.

He thanked everyone for watching and creating content and talking about the challenge before accepting the fault for a break in the action. However, in his long post, he said that there would be plenty of more challenges.

He has received huge support from his fans, colleagues and even opponents. The poker star has been showered with praise for his courage to admit.

It is true that Venivedi has taken the first challenge but there are many more things to come. The poker world is certain to lose something if the challenge does not happen again. However, everyone is hopeful that Galfond Challenge would come back very soon.
