After the success achieved this year, the Global Poker Awards will return in 2020 to Central Poker with expanded categories in which even more gongs are awarded to reward the best poker players in the world.
The awards ceremony in 2019, however, had some controversial episodes, such as in the Best Podcast category when Romanian-Canadian player Daniel Negreanu complained about the prize awarded to the European podcast of David Lappin and Dara O’Kearney.
The results in other categories were more accepted by the public to reward the efforts of industry greats that included Andrew Neeme, Doyle Brunson and Angelica Hael.
As for poker, an industry that year after year wants to overcome and stand out, what can you expect at the 2020 Global Poker Awards? Each prize will be widely debated among fans, no doubt. Everyone will have their favorites in each category.
The ceremony for the delivery of the 2020 Global Poker Awards will be on Friday, March 6 and will be broadcast from the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino. Although the name of the nominees has not been revealed, it was known that there are about 20 awards to be delivered, including the new Player’s Choice Award. The prize will be awarded to the best complete poker player, a difficult decision for the variety of game variables involved.
To witness this great show, you must subscribe to PokerGO. Prize categories range from Event of the Year to Person of the Year of the Industry and the expected People’s Choice Award to the Personality of the Year of Poker. This year 21 gongs were delivered with four female winners.

“The Global Poker Index team is working hard on this expanded Global Poker Awards event, full of new awards and experiences for attendees and the audience,” said Global Poker Index President Eric Danis, adding that they are “delighted that the Global Poker Awards have become a repetitive annual event that is growing in scope and importance among the poker industry.”
Central Poker President Sam Simmons also expressed his enthusiasm for the awards ceremony next year.
“The first annual Global Poker awards were a great success and an important moment for us as an industry to recognize our best and brightest,” he said.
For Simmons “the second annual event is an important opportunity for Poker Central to re-partner with the Global Poker Index and broadcast the biggest night of our community at PokerGO for home fans.”
The voting process for the 2020 awards has been ‘updated’ and includes the convening of a jury made up of industry experts and fan participation in some categories. Nominees will have to wait anxiously to know if their hard work this year is awarded.
