The Mercedes driver -Lewis Hamilton sees himself in Charles Leclerc’s situation. What Leclerc is going through now is what he went through back in 2007 during his debut season at McLaren. Back then he was alongside the reigning champion Fernando Alonso, but the two were not lucky to win the world championship.
As a result, Alonso quitted McLaren. Hamilton wanted to defeat the champion he was racing against and this to him is similar to Leclerc situation.
Comparing his situation to Leclerc, he said that Leclerc’s talent was being dimmed after the Formulae One rival was asked to move over for teammate Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton noted that Leclerc was doing a great job and had high expectations at a large team like Ferrari.
Leclerc earned a move to Ferrari after an impressive rookie season with Sauber in 2018. Hamilton felt that forcing Leclerc into a support role in Ferrari could smother his actual skill.
Leclerc, on the other hand, said that he would accept Ferrari’s order depending on the situation. Leclerc lost in Bahrain last month as a result of an engine fault, and he looks forward to his first win.
