The world-famous Chinese telecom company, Huawei Technology’s CFO Meng Wanzhouis facing a possible arrest to the United States, but the Canadian provincial court has postponed her bail.
The US prosecutors want the Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzou to get arrested so that she faces all charges she has been accused of. She has misled multinational banks regarding Huawei’s control of a company operating in Iran; this has put the banks at a risk of violating the US laws and can suffer several penalties.
Meng Wanzhouis is the 46 years old daughter of Huawei’s founder. She was arrested from Vancouver on December 1, while she was changing planes. During an affidavit, she told that she is innocent and will fight against all the allegations she has been charged.
Meng’s lawyer David Martin told that the court high-tech surveillance devices and a 24-hours security detail will make it clear that his client didn’t try to flee. He also presented a 15 million dollar bail documents and her husband as a guarantee, but the public prosecutor and the judge didn’t agree to it as Meng’s husband is not a resident of British Columbia.
Meng’s arrest has already hampered the markets and can increase the ongoing tensions between the United States and China. Beijing has demanded Meng’s immediate release or less Canada might have to face some complication from their end.
Meng appeared confident in the court on Monday morning. But by the mid-afternoon, she appeared little tensed and was fully occupied with her legal team members.
Meng appeared confident in court early on Monday, smiling and taking her lawyer’s arm. But by mid-afternoon she appeared more tense, gesturing rapidly as she conferred with members of her legal team.
