Riviera Beach in Palm Beach County, Florida is gaining some notoriety these days. It is not the positive kind. It appears that the police are cracking down on illegal gambling as part of a special initiative to clean up the area.
Numerous complaints sparked the crack down that revolved around convenience stores functioning as gambling sites. Of course, they are not licensed to engage in wagering. Reports specified that the stores in question had arcade style slots machine video games that solicited bets.
The investigation has been going on for months to narrow down the culprits. Seven stores were nailed after search warrants brought about numerous arrests. It was, in effect, a successful sting operation. In addition to illegal gambling, the authorities uncovered drug sales, public drinking and loitering on these sites. The neighborhoods are happy to see the stores shut down.
