Bitcoin crowdfunding campaign that Tor launched attained $10,000 soft cap in just 25 hours.
BitcoinForTor — the new crowdfunding program — was officially unveiled on July 15. Subsequently, the minimum required amount for the project was raised in a short time —such that the process was over by July 16. BTCPay Server, an open-source payment processor, facilitated the firm to develop the program.
Since the time when the softcap was achieved, the fundraising campaign for the Tor Project has not yet stopped. In order to protect online privacy, which “requires financial support beyond 10k”, cryptocurrency users have been invited to make Bitcoin donations within the next 13 days.
Meanwhile, at the time the press release came out, $10,927 was raised within BitcoinForTor program accounts that have 373 contributors.
The Tor Project’s Ledger Nano S wallet will receive the raised funds directly from the campaign. After the funds have been raised, they will be channeled towards improving human rights — specifically online freedom and privacy globally.
Metaco SA’s (crypto-focused fintech) software developer Nicolas Dorier has given thumbs up to the initiative. In his opinion, besides Tor being great software, it is also an “essential piece of many projects in Bitcoin.”
This year, Tor Project reportedly began to accept donations — on its major donational portal — for a variety of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum.
