Betting shops, bingo halls and gaming arcades in Italy have begun to reopen after being closed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19.

All gambling sites were forced to shut down when the country entered into a state of lockdown on 10 March. However, with the COVID-19 situation now improving in the country, the government has started to lift some restrictions.

This included allowing gambling locations to reopen as of June 12, with some operators having opened their doors again over last weekend.
However, venues will only be allowed to run business if they work in line with strict measures laid down by the government to help protect employees and customers.

Such measures include requiring both staff and players to wear protective face masks when asked inside the hall, placing signage to promote social distancing, installing hand sanitizer stations and taking the temperature of anyone coming to the venue before entry.

Should gambling providers not comply with these measures, they could be subject to punishment, including operating suspensions where they would have to shut down the halls for up to five days.

SKS365 was among the major operators to announce that it would restart retail activities, laying down plans to start reopening its 1,000 Planetwin365 shops across Italy.

In line with the new coronavirus measures, SKS365 has put in place some measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including placing an ‘Operating Safety Kit’ in every shop. This includes sanitising gels, masks, and dividing barriers for use at the venue.

“It has been a crucial time for the business and absolutely necessary given the spread of Covid-19,” SKS365 chief executive Alexander Martin said. “During the lockdown we have been actively and following #StayAtHome.

“In addition, we were developing a series of initiatives to improve our product experience both retail and online to offer more innovative services for our customers. Thanks to the enormous commitment of all parties, today we can say that our shops will reopen in a safe and even better operational way.”

SKS365’s head of product and technology, Officer Jim Parkins, said the company had additionally been working on major updates to POS systems for customers and shop owners, and these would now be rolled out to coincide with the restart.

Parkins said: “The new Planetwin365 self-service bet booking system represents the biggest change since the launch of our retail systems.

Apart from significantly improving the speed and experience placing bets, along with our market leading betting terminals, the new software will help shop owners and customers maintain safe social distancing.

“Additionally, locating all our 1,000 Planetwin365 shops are now easily findable for customers in Google maps, Apple maps, Waze and 45 other social mapping solutions.”
