Jeffrey Earnhardt, the grandson of Dale Earnhardt, a seven-time Cup Champion will pull double duty this weekend. This will be the first time in his career to do so. On Saturday, he will take part in Xfinity series, and on Sunday he will participate on Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series event. The events will take place at Talladega Superspeedway.
Jeffrey will be driving Joe Gibbs Racing driving No.18 Toyota on Saturday. Then on Sunday, he will be making cup debut with Xtreme Concept Racing, driving No.81 Toyota. He is looking forward to maintaining his family legacy.
Jeffrey says that double duty racing will be a new experience, but they are well prepared. He added that the race will be a bit different given that Xtreme Concepts team is still new and it is their first Cup start this year. Joe Gibbs Racing, however, has been helping them prepare for the race. After doing well at Dayota, Jeffrey is prepared to have a shot this race.
History of Talladega
Earnhardt family has won most Cup at Talladega. Dale Sr. set the record with 10 Cup victories and one Xfinity win. Earnhardt Jr. has so far won six Cup races and one Xfinity. Jeffrey Earnhardt says that Talladega has been unique to him and his family starting with his grandfather and uncle. It has also not been bad for him at Talladega.
Jeffrey says that Talladega is peculiar because fans are emotionally connected to what is going on. Thus the feeling one gets when pulling a huge truck with all fans in the field, which is something unlikely to get anywhere else. Then knowing the family history and what they have accomplished also make Talladega special in a way.
