Let’s go deep into the Egyptian desert to unearth untold treasures with Jungle Jim and The Lost Sphinx
Stormcraft Studios, founded in 2016, is an independent online casino game provider, who creates exclusively for Microgaming. They are capable of providing a slot game that is a legendary gaming experience.
One of the most significant games from the Stormcraft Studios is Fortunium, an adventurous steampunk-themed slot game that is excellent for playing on your mobile phones. Credited with the creation of Immortal Romance and Mega Moolah, quality is assured. The bigger game provider companies are now taking advantage from the smaller independents, in terms of quality and diversity. Even though relatively new, Stormcraft Studios had been taken up by Microgaming in 2018. They quickly recognized that this company brings experience, artistry and advanced-thinking technology to all their games.
Stormcraft Studio’s Executive Producer, Terence Igesund, details the backstory of Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx,
“Would you believe that I invented Jungle Jim as a character all the way back in 2005! He looked very different back then. Ten years later, we decided to dust him off and give him a makeover for Jungle Jim – El Dorado. We wanted to create a charming, fun and adventurous character that Microgaming operators could connect with and that players would find entertaining. We knew how Jim was going to behave before we knew what he was going to look like. Inventing his back story and personality helped to define his physical appearance and personal style. Being prone to the occasional selfie meant that he definitely needed an Instagram account where he could share pics of his adventures with his fans!”
Speaking about the forthcoming game and the company’s participation at iGB Live! Jean-Luc Ferriere, the Chief Commercial Officer at Microgaming confirmed this when he stated:
“Given the success and popularity of Jungle Jim El Dorado, we are really looking forward to teasing the iconic character’s next outing, this week at iGB Live! The new game includes outstanding artwork and entertaining mechanics including the popular. Rolling Reels feature, and Stormcraft Studos have set a new benchmark in visual storytelling in our industry.”

Theme and Atmosphere
The title “Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx” comes with a desert theme which is emphasized by an Egyptian soundtrack which plays in the background.
In this slot you to the desert, which is followed by a jungle. The starry-night serves as the background of the title. The reels have been set on a stone temple. As usual, it can be hoped that Microgaming will do an appropriate work with the graphics and animation to catch up with the prior game in the series. The setting has changed with the character leaving Amazon to get into the desert.
Jungle Jim and The Lost Sphinx: Features
In the middle to the gameplay is the Rolling Reels mechanic which has been kept from the genuine Jungle Jim slot. We can say that it was actually copied from the mother of all cascading slots, Gonzo’s Quest by NetEnt. At the start of a spin sequence, symbols drop from the top onto the reels and any winning combination explodes after the payout to make room for new symbols to fall into place. The spin sequence continues until no new wins occur after a drop.
Later you will see that a multiplier trail will activate after the first win which will be applied to any further ensuing wins. It will only reset to x1 at the end of a spin sequence.
Start Level: Every spin series starts on a 5×4 format with 35 pay lines
- After the 1st cascade: the win multiplier increases to x2
- After the 2nd cascade: the win multiplier increases to x3
- After the 3rd cascade: the win multiplier increases to x4, plus the reels set increases to a 5×5 size with 50 pay lines
- After the 4th cascade: the win multiplier increases to x5
- After the 5th cascade and thereafter: The win multiplier increases and stays at x10 until the end of the round
A new spin has been added in the gameplay to refrain from having the multiplier dropping straight to x1 after a losing cascade. However, the Second Chance Respin is only available if no winning combo lands after the third cascade, giving you one respin to potentially score a win and continue on the multiplier trail.
Hitting three, four or five scatters in one spin will trigger 12 free spins plus you’ll get a coin win of 5x, 10x and 20x your total bet respectively. The free spins cannot be retriggered as such but collecting six sphynx symbols, appearing only on reel three during the feature, will award +1 free spin, no limits.
The free spins are played on the full 5×5 game window with 50 pay lines, plus, the win multiplier will start at x2 on the default level and increase to x3, x4, x8, x12 and x20 on consecutive winning cascades. Similarly to the main game, it will reset to x2 at the end of a free spin.
In case you want trigger the free spins, you can activate the Win Booster in the base game and a scatter will be added to reels. A simple click on the button on the left of the reels and the additional cost will be added to your default bet size. You can opt to deactivate the feature after every spin in the base game.
Betting and Prizes
You’re able to select the bet for the round, in a range which starts off at a minimum of $0.10, and can end up at a maximum level of $20. This gives you access to all the game’s lines.
The individual wins of the game don’t pay all that much, you get at most 10x total stake for the combinations involving Jungle Jim, but thanks to multipliers of up to 20x in free spins mode, there is definitely potential for a lot more. Apparently, payouts of over 6,000x are possible, but caps may be placed by the developer on the jackpot.
Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx jackpot
This isn’t a jackpot slot, but there are still plenty of big prizes to reel in. Particularly if you hit the highest multiplier level in the free spins round, where any wins will be multiplied by 20x.
RTP and volatility
In comparison to the original slot, Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx is higher in both volatility and return to player, with an average return of 96.10% to 96.30%. The higher volatility means there are some huge prizes to draw in, but they may not hit quite as often so you may need to spin this slot for a while before seeing any action.
Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx on mobile
Just like the 2016 slot release, Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx plays great on mobile devices, so you can enjoy this slot across a range of platforms.
Jungle Jim and The Lost Sphinx: Verdict
It’s really good to have one of our favorite characters make a comeback, the representation of Jim is one that is less colorful and that also lacks the charm of the original. Without being able to identify exactly what it is, Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx almost looks like some kind of Chinese fake version with a strange generic quality to it. But there are parts of it that look marvelous. As compared to the original version, the sequel could probably pass as the predecessor.
The volatility of this gameplay is higher as compared to the original one and also offers better win potential, which in itself could be enough to make it more appealing to some players. It could be the looks, or it could be the fact that we felt somewhat restrained by the limitations of its paylines. So in short we can say that Jungle Jim 2 is a good slot with higher potential. Sporting higher volatility, the game might not be for everyone, but some are willing to risk more, in order to potentially win big. RTP is at the right level also, being set to 96.30%.
