Healthy food eatery Kauai has begun a modern subscription service that provides inexhaustible natural coffee for 30 days as well as a daily smoothie for either two weeks or a month.

The inexhaustible natural coffee subscription enables consumers to claim any short hot drink every 120 minutes for 30 days, up to 230 coffees in a month, for a subscription of R299.

A subscription for a small daily smoothie for two weeks costs R199, while a full month smoothie package costs R375, all accessible on Kauai’s application.

“Innovation is a central tenet of our business, so we are thrilled to be the first restaurant group to bring this subscription service to South Africa and one of only a handful offering this type of subscription programme worldwide,” said Dean Kowarski, CEO of Kauai’s parent company Real Foods.

“We also understand that South African are looking for value during these tough economic times, so have designed our subscriptions to offer exceptional value on our organic coffees and smoothies,” said Kowarski.

How it operates

The subscriptions are bought on the application, which can be downloaded from the Apple and Android app stores.

Consumers are handed a subscription ticket in the app, which shows the number of coffees/ smoothies that have been claimed, and how many are remaining.

Orders can be placed at any of the firm’s 150 outlets, with consumers only required to scan the application to claim the drink. Also, orders can be placed on the app for delivery or for non-contact collection in store, to observe social distancing requirements.

The launch subscriptions can be accessed up to 28th February, 2020, and other subscriptions anticipated to be launched soon.

Kowarski noted that the subscription structure is essential for the company.

“Subscriptions create recurring revenue by offering customers another reason to visit Kauai and build loyalty by nurturing long-term relationships with customers. We anticipate new customer acquisition to be fuelled by subscriptions,’ he said.

Major US fast-casual eatery brands such as Panera Bread have also began highly efficient subscriptions, with the chain recording 850,000 customers registering within the first few months.
