The Parliament of Lithuania is focusing more on making major decisions about gambling advertisements. It is enforcing the complete banning of all gambling-related advertising and promotions. This will be in effect from May 20th. With 105 votes collected, it was enough to change the country’s legislation regarding this matter.
From July 1st, operators of this Eastern European country will not get the permit to create any promotional content for the gambling. They will all be prohibited from the distribution of gambling chips or offer discounts. Giving away gifts and other various types of promotions will also be forbidden as a consequence of this amendment.
This Governmental measure is working in this manner to help in combating the problems related to gambling in Lithuania.
This decision is made following the national survey conducted by the Gambling Supervisory Authority in November, which revealed the fact that the Lithuanian public is actually against this gambling-related advertising.
76% of the 1001 people who participated in the survey said that gambling advertising must be kept to a minimum. 52% of them believe that it should be completely banned. On the other hand, 22% were in favor of banning only lottery advertising.
Aurelijus Veryga, a member of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, said that it is a kind of activity that costs too much for some people in terms of health, despite the money.

The director of the Gaming Control Authority, Virginijus Dauksys, said that before the ban the pandemic has already affected the gambling market in a much severe way.
The Authority is having a large number of complaints against the gambling providers who did not stick to the promise of not advertising gambling during this crisis of COVID-19.
The Lithuanian Gambling operators were told to halt their advertising during the country’s lockdown during April. But many have continued to ignore this recommendation. According to reports, some even increased their advertising on gambling.
The National Gambling and Gaming Business Association representative, Mantas Zakarka, said that this ban on gambling advertising would impact the gambling market. It will repel the new operators entering the country.
