United have rejected an offer from Real Madrid involving cash plus James Rodriguez for Paul Pogba, according to Sky Sports.
The offer was rejected last week as it fell way short of their valuation for the France World Cup winner.
It is now understood that Real have not enough financial resources to buy Pogba in a straight cash deal. Pogba missed United’s final pre-season match against Milan due to a back problem.
The midfielder finished last season as United’s top scorer with 16 goals and 11 assists in 47 games.
Rodriguez future at the Bernabeu remains uncertain and he has been linked with a host of European clubs. His current contract in Spain runs until 2021.
