Going from a 50.1% to 74.9% stake, Merkur Sportwetten GmbH has increased its holding in the Belgian sports betting company Betcenter Group.
The subsidiary of the Gauselmann Group has had a connection with Betcenter since early 2018. Now the initial holding is up 24.8%.
Seydi Tekin remains as managing partner of Betcenter while director, Carsten Schaudienst, continues as a board member.
According to Tekin, Betcenter thought it wise to sell a portion of the company with the goal of expansion in mind.
Management felt Betcenter could grow faster and stronger this way. They found an ideal partner in Merkur Sportwetten so why not increase their role.
“…it supports us as a technology partner for system bets as well as financially.
The partnership quickly brought benefits and we were able to double our turnover in the past two years.”
At Merkur Sportwetten, Markus Ettlin, Managing Director said,
“Together, we want to increase the already large footprint of Merkur Sportwetten under the Betcenter brand in Belgium. We will further extend the omnichannel product offering (physical as well as online) in the coming months.”
