German midfielder, Mesut Ozil has become an Arsenal outcast under Unai Emery’s reign. The player who had always been in the top team when Wenger was coach has played just once in the Premier League this season.
Although the Gunners had a good start for the season, the defeat by Sheffield United on Monday has made them lose the chance to appear third on the Premier League table.
In the game, Emery used three no.10’s including Bukayo Saka, Joe Willock and Dani Ceballos while Ozil stayed on the bench. This has placed the boss’s relationship with the player under scrutiny.
According to Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi, there is no rift between the two because the coach is just doing his job, rewarding players’ good training with game time. He continued to say that Mesut Ozil is not any different from other players and has equal opportunity at Emirates.
Ozil has been seen having discussions with Emery during training ahead of the match with Vitoria. The 30 year old was possibly asking for a recall in the game where he could try to prove himself.
Being the highest earner, receiving £350, 000 a week in wages, the player ought to show his worth and getting more game time is the way to go.
Playing Mesut Ozil in Thursday’s game could be a win for Emery too because he is also at a risk of losing his job if Gunners register more defeats. Ozil could therefore be his ticket to victory on Thursday night!
