Nakanoshima University held the second IR Development Symposium in Osaka. MGM Resort International and Galaxy Entertainment Grou were well represented. The Symposium talk was about the plans for an integrated resort in the Osaka area.
The Symposium was all about the IR activities. Shinichi Fukushima, the director of Osaka International Convention, opened the convention with the following remarks;
“The IR bid is already reaching the final stages. There is no doubt that it will be an unprecedented growth-type IR, and an Osaka IR and World Expo will energize Osaka.”
MGM Resort Japan CEO Ed Bowers took the stage later. He discussed the company plans for a massive resort in Osaka. Bower asserted that the first IR in Japan must be the best in the world. He emphasized that partnership with the local area was important for such IR to come to fruition.
Galaxy GM followed with discussions; he emphasized the need to support the local communities and also to attract Asian visitors.
Genting Singapore, another company, competing for Osaka IR, missed the event for unknown reasons. That might be an indication of quitting the bidding wars, which are to begin at the end of 2019.
MGM is doing everything possible to maintain its lead in the Osaka IR race. To retain their position as the leading IR candidate, MGM has decided to sponsor the 10th Yosakoi Osaka Tournament. The tournament is part of the Dotonbori River Festival, which is the largest in Osaka. It incorporates; traditional performing arts, entertainment, and attractions.
MGM has supported the tournament for three straight years; they plan to continue doing so as part of the plan to back the local community.
