The punters of New York had the opportunity to try their luck betting on Nothern Trust, the playoffs opener of PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, as the 125 best golf players from regular season measured their strengths at the event marking the start of the final leg of the tournament.
The contest took place at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City and saw the winner Patrick Reed advance to the next part of the cup together with 69 other contestants, while for the rest the tournament is over.
Betting options were limited but still available
As PGA Tour official announced before the contest there were “limitations as to where betting information may be displayed,” however, the option to bet did exist. Even though New Jersey law only allows traditional “retail” betting at the state’s nine Atlantic City casinos or at its three racetracks, those who were willing to use their device to wager, could download a sports betting app, which would allow them to do so.
Considering a dozen years ago a person could not even bring a phone to the golf course where a Tour event was taking place, this is a great example of how times have changed and the possibilities keep expanding.
