Newcastle would be asking for disaster if they appoint this man as their manager, even Big Sam would be a better choice

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in appointing former USA and Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann as their new manager this summer if Rafa Benitez leaves according to a report published by France Football.

The club may well be asking for relegation if they do indeed appoint the German. He after all has a mixed reputation as a manager even though he was a German football legend. Klinsmann has previously managed the likes of Germany, Bayern Munich and the United States.

As manager of Germany, he led his homeland to third place in the 2006 world cup which they played on home soil. In 2008 he was appointed as Bayern Munich boss and lasted less than a year. Former German captain Phillip Lahm described Klinsmann’s stint managing the Bundesliga giants as having been a “failure” in his autobiography.

Klinsmann was manager of the US between 2011-2017 and had moderate success with them. He led them to the Concacaf Gold Cup title in 2013 and the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup. However, his stint as manager of the States ended bitterly in 2017 when he left the nation with their 2018 World Cup campaign being in tatters. The US subsequently ended up failing to qualify for the tournament in Russia under the guidance of Bruce Arena. Surely this should raise questions about Klinsmann’s managerial abilities. Panama ended up qualifying for the 2018 World Cup at the expense of the Americans. Concacaf is also one of the least competitive regions in world football. The only teams which the Americans could be excused for not beating are perhaps Mexico and Costa Rica.

Klinsmann has not really impressed as a manager thus far in spite of managing relatively strong teams. While the US are considered modest by world standards, they are giants by Concacaf standards. Surely this should be enough reason for Newcastle to not appoint him as their manager. If they do, they really could be asking for relegation. Klinsmann also does not have prior Premier League experience. Considering the unstable situation at Newcastle behind the scenes, that should at least be a compulsory requirement for whoever becomes their next manager if Benitez does leave.

The Magpies may well be in search of a new manager come this summer. Rafa Benitez has stalled on signing a new contract with the club with his current deal set to come to an end this summer. The Spaniard has worked wonders at the club since being appointed in 2016 amidst having to work with club owner Mike Ashley who has been accused of mismanaging the club for over a decade.

It is easy to see why Benitez may be tempted to leave St James Park. He is not backed sufficiently in the transfer market and would surely attract offers from clubs which can offer him better due to his experience and reputation.

The Toon Army really need to think carefully about their next managerial appointment. If it is not made carefully, it could have disastrous consequences which could include relegation.
