The operator of Russian origin will be able to operate in Nigeria until 2024 after receiving a full game license. The license allows 1xBet to have a presence in all states and regions of the African country.
In a statement issued after receiving the national license, the operator said:
“1xBet is in favor of responsible gambling. We comply with the laws of each country in which we operate. Since our license to work in Nigeria is valid until 2024, in the next five years we want to set new standards for betting culture. We will teach you to the fans that with 1xBet play according to simple and understandable rules that must be observed.”
The operator made a commitment to comply with Nigeria’s regulatory standards and support the country’s efforts to combat gambling addiction:
“In addition to the transactional limit of the financial regulatory body in Nigeria, and our concerted efforts to drastically reduce gambling addiction, we have also implemented a spending limit on our platform to further promote responsible gambling.”
1xBet indicated that it will comply with regular attendance at responsible games seminars organized by regulatory authorities.
The operator said that given its experience in football, the most popular sport in Nigeria, the adaptation to Nigerian customers will be perfect. The company has been signing alliances in recent years with various European football clubs such as Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool in recent years.
“We are aware of Nigeria’s position as a recognized soccer-focused market. In 2018 we signed a partnership agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation, the Nigeria national football team and the Nigeria Premier League,” said 1xBet.
It added that the company is also an official partner of the African Football Confederation and
“the biggest club tournaments on the continent. We have accumulated considerable experience while working with the best football clubs like Barcelona.”
Stressed that Nigerian fans will not only have at their disposal a very wide range of betting options,
“but also a sense of participation in the victories of their favorite teams. Football fans can be sure of 1xBet, where they always have a chance to win alongside their favorite clubs.”
The Nigerian license is very broad in terms of the operator’s scope of action, as it not only includes a variety of sports betting market options for Nigerian customers, but also other markets that include “cinema, music, politics and other areas of life”.
1xBet said its wish is
“that all who have the legal capacity to place bets have access to a potential win and we hope to find new interesting partners in Nigeria with similar goals.”
The operator last year was the center of a scandal caused by a Sunday Times report. The British newspaper presented serious accusations against the operator, including the promotion of its brands on prohibited websites.
1xBet, however, defended itself by claiming that its external partners were really to blame for including its advertisements on prohibited sites and that this was done without their prior knowledge or consent. The operator’s explanation was not enough for English football clubs. Tottenham Hotspur was the first to cancel its association with 1xBet in September; it was followed by Chelsea and Liverpool in October 2019.
