The government of Norway has stepped into the gambling area with new legal measures to control unauthorized payment transactions. The crackdown will shut down illegal gambling services in the country.
Gambling operators have heard loud and clear. They are facing stricter processing rules. The mandate is simple. No payment can be taken from or made to illegal entities. Get authorized or get out!
Unlicensed operators are banned from providing products and services through unauthorized payment transactions. Those facilitating such transactions are breaking the law.
According to Trine Sei Grande, Minister of Culture and Gender Equality,
“The purpose of the changes is to streamline an existing ban on the payment of money games without Norwegian permission. Banks have stated that they want it to be clearer what the authorities expect from their side to follow up the payment intermediation ban.”
Government officials are working hard to make sure that the banks comply with the prohibition. It will no longer be an option to play on foreign gaming sites without permission.
“The unregulated players offer games with a higher risk of gambling addiction and are not subject to the same accountability measures as the gaming offer of Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto.”
