Saturday’s match didn’t go well for Ole’s men after the defeat by the Hammers in a 2-0 win. Although the game had started on a slow first half, the second half started on high spirits with Andriy Yarmolenko scoring in less than 60 seconds.
Yarmolenko’s opener raised the confidence for Pellegrini’s men ushering Aaron Cresswell’s super free-kick. The left-back’s shot swirled beyond De Gea’s reach and into the top corner giving the Hammers their second goal.
For the Red Devils, the game was quite tough. While they had many chances, they were unable to turn them into goals. In the second half for instance, Juan Mata was unable to turn Andreas Perreira’s cross into an equalizing score.
Unfortunately for Manchester United, Westham’s defense was lethal with Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop playing at their finest. United’s defense was weak as Rashford’s withdrawal forced Lingard to play as a center forward. Maybe selling Romelo Lukaku was not a good idea after all!
Solskjaer also agreed that his team was not at its best. In his opinion, the game could have gone both ways but he had hoped for a win.
He also provided that although his men created big chances, they failed to grasp the key moments which is what Pellegrini’s side did. Ole also mentioned the possibility of Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood to play against Arsenal.
Following the win, West Ham rose to the fourth position while Man United trailed at the eighth position. For Man United fans, the Premier League is still ongoing so it’s not too late to hope for more wins.
