Oklahoma City is probably not the ideal team for Chris Paul. The team does not need the help of a veteran as it seeks to rebuild. Chris Paul ought to play for a better team.
Miami Heat is one of the teams that appear interested in Paul. Miami, however, wanted a draft pick to take on the three years and $124 million remaining on his contract. To Thunders, the cost seemed too high.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN said that if Chris wanted a trade to Miami, he would have to decline his player option.
Paul would prefer Miami to Oklahoma. But if he moved to Heat, they will remain a playoff team. If Thunders keeps the $44 million-plus guaranteed, it won’t be a bad option to him.
Paul will likely get a better deal when he finally hit the free agency in 2021. But he can’t always count on a good deal given his age. He is 36 years, and at that age, even more, significant players can be finished.
