Osaka has always been seen as the perfect location of Japan Integrated Resort (IR). But this is about to change as other Japanese cities are also becoming attractive to the potential casinos and international operators.
At the moment, only three operators are remaining in Osaka IR race. They include MGM Resort, Genting Singapore, and Galaxy Entertainment Group. According to a local media, the three companies have submitted Request for Concept proposals.
The recent announcement points out that Las Vegas Sands and Melco Resorts have been eliminated in the race since they are focusing their effort on Yokohama and Tokyo. Osaka is planning to open an IR by 2024.
While Osaka was working through its paperwork, Yokohama formally announced its intentions for an IR bid at the end of August, prompting LVS and Melco to refocus their energies.
Currently, there is a maximum of three locations in Japan that will receive IR approval. The top three cities that are likely to get approval include: Osaka, Yokohama, and Nagasaki.
