Phil Hellmuth is always up for a new challenge. Just recently he faced off against tennis professional Ellis Guernsey and faced off against the youngsters 127mph serve. If Hellmuth could win one point, he would stand to win $20 000 or lose $4000. The odds were 5/1 and Hellmuth was never going to be out of that type of action.
Hellmuth has form winning prop bets which is unlike a lot of poker players. Hellmuth had form and form in tennis prop betts as well after having won $23 000 in a previous bet.
“I hit a 3-point shot, no warmup, in Pitts, in the dark/rain, at 2 AM for $15,000 to my $1,500. I hit a tennis ball back against a pro serving 80 MPH, scored a point (fluky), for $23,000. Now I’ll try to score a [point] on pro vs 127 MPH.” he said on social media.
Guernsey demonstrated the same kind of quick eye to hand coordination which young men who graduated three years ago have. Hellmuth threw himself into the thick of things and lunged quite a bit from side to side in an attempt to lay his racquet on the ball. Many such attempts ended with him collapsing more.
Hellmuth may have lost but this was a new experience for him so it may not be a regret.
