Riverside Casino and Golf Resort in Iowa is about to launch its long anticipated Elite Sportsbook on August 15. The new feature has been in the works for over a year, while Iowa’s legislature debated and consequently passed a law permitting sports wagering in the state.
The sportsbook is ready to go public
With Iowa’s sports wagering rules finalized last week and the casino’s $11 million renovation completed, Riverside is all set to let customers enjoy its new offering. Dan Franz, General Manager at Riverside, reported that a lot of effort was put into the project to enable its launch this week.
“We’ve been working diligently to establish rules, internal controls and procedures to be ready to serve the public on August 15. A lot of work was done after the law was in place to have sports betting with integrity,” he declared.
Rules and controls were not the only things the casino had to work on; some changes were necessary on the property itself to accommodate the new sportsbook. Riverside had begun the reconstruction even before the sports betting law was passed and has since then repurposed its high-limit room and VIP lounge into a Draft Day facility, where the sportsbook is to be housed. More things are still being added, such as additional TVs, betting windows and kiosks. When the plans for the lounge were published in May, they showed it spreading over the surface area of 5,000 square feet and featuring a 53-foot long video wall, 22 televisions showing live sports, 16 kiosks for submitting bets and 6 staffed betting windows.
Elite Sportsbook is launching in two dimensions
Not only will Iowans now be able to bet on sports in the casino, an online elitesportsbook.com is opening on the same day and will allow customers to place their bets on the internet, provided they first set up an account in person. The personal registration is compulsory as it is required by the state law.
As for the technology behind the betting, Riverside has chosen BetWorks to handle that aspect of the sportsbook.
“They will be setting the lines, marketing and deciding what bets to offer and accept,” Franz specified.
