Manchester City winger Riyadh Mahrez has revealed that he wants to remain with the Premier League Champions next season in spite of being linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium. The 28-year-old did not fully establish himself as a first-team regular with the Cityzens this season as he went on to play 27 times in the top-flight, scoring several goals and recording four assists.
Last weekend, he was on target for City and put them 3-1 ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex. This effectively won Pep Guardiola’s side the League title for a second consecutive season.
“It’s not easy to come to a team who are settled and have the players who play,” he said. “That squad did everything last season. I knew it wouldn’t be easy in my first year but I’m very confident in myself and have no doubts about my quality. I knew that, when I had my chance, I’d take it. I scored at Brighton and helped the team.” said Mahrez.
When speaking about whether he is happy at City, he added:
“I’m very happy here,” Mahrez said. “I’m not going somewhere else because I don’t play. It’s part of the game. I need to be strong, stay strong. It’s part of my personality. I never hide from things.”
