Online sports betting operators from Russia are set to enjoy four times increased growth during the next two years according to a new survey. This comes after Russian media outlet Kommersant published the results of a Sberbank survey on Monday which projected that the betting market will grow at an annual rate of 7% per year until 2020.
During the period, growth of the Russian licensed online bookmakers is expected to reach 30%. Svetlana Sukhanova who is an analyst for Sberbank said that the online growth will not come from increased numbers of bettors. It will emanate from Russia’s online betters who transfer their wagering from internationally licensed operators to locally licensed sites.
81% of Russian bettors have placed an online wager while 69% who wager at Russian betting shops have indicated a desire to take their action online during the future.
The increased interest in Russian licensed sites reflects the newly streamlined account registration process as well as the crackdown in Russia on payment processing.
