Sky Sports pundit Kevin Phillips has hit out at Everton star Andre Gomes for his tackle on Aleksandar Mitrovic during the Toffees 2-0 loss against Fulham on Saturday.
Gomes was guilty of a silly offence during the game as he stepped on Mitrovic’s ankle despite the ball being out of the picture.
Phillips has slammed Gomes following the incident and he believes that Mitrovic was stepped on on-purpose.
“I have to say when you look at it from the other angle, it’s a naughty one,” Phillips told Goals on Sunday. “I can’t believe the referee [saying] ‘get up’.
“He doesn’t go down too easily does he Mitrovic?! He likes a tackle. He likes a bit of argie-bargie. For me that’s deliberate. He’s not even challenging for the ball. The ball is well gone. The referee is well out of the picture. I can’t believe he hasn’t seen it.”
Gomes went on to play the full game and was not even given a yellow card by referee Lee Probert.
The Cottagers who are already mathematically relegated from the top-flight this season gave their supporters something to celebrate for a change as they went on to win the game through goals from Tom Cairney and Ryan Babel.
