Spain Edges Closer to Complete Gambling Ads Ban as Ombudsman Proposes Restrictions

PSOE, which is said to be Spain’s minority government, will be taking into version all the references of Ombudsman, Francisco Fernandez Marugan, in regard to outlawing all the content relating to betting marketing.

The Ombudsman’s recommendations were accepted by the Ministry of Finance, which means other related sectors will have to work on enforcing gaming industry’s newest limitations. Establishments will draft the so-called Noble Decree.

Dire Actions

This Decree will serve as a resource to establish restrictions on Spain’s gambling commercial restrictions. Ombudsman’s reference was filed with Ministries of Funds, Health, Buyer and Welfare. He commanded a complete restriction on gambling publicizing in Spain.

He remarked:

“Kids’ viewing time needs to be clean of gambling ads and no celebrities should be shown advertising gambling.”

The Last Drop

Recently the Spanish Lottery had a disgrace of categories when Cosmin Rotariu a 15-year-old-boy from Barcelona, won a 200,000EUR jackpot in El Nino bingo draw. Players must be 18 or older in order to join and be suitable to win, according to Spanish laws. Although father of Cosmin gave him the permission to buy the lottery ticket, which is still not allowed, and the retailer could get in trouble for letting him buy it.

TV anchors in Spain has already begun removing gambling ads from their agenda, as to defend the weakest viewers. Still, it remains to be seen whether lottery ads will also be restricted.

Parallel Actions in UK

“imposing gaming industry’s latest constraints”

Operatives are ever more serious about being careful what kind of message they’re sending to the general community as, for instance, in UK, The Big Five of operators – Flutter Entertainment, bet365, GVC, Sky Betting and Gaming and William Hill – have designed self-regulating committee on responsible gambling, led by the Conservative Party’s Lord Chadlington. Their sole aim will be to

“check widely to frame its references taking account in particular of the views of government, controllers, the third sector, gambling operators and those with lived knowledge.”

Dutch Trail Suit

Kansspelautoriteit, controller of Netherlands has acknowledged the general public that it has succeeded to avert 23 partner marketing sites from online gambling brands’ commercials.

KSA has directed comprehensive research on 44 sites’ activity and 20 of them have been directed to terminate all advertising movements, while the remaining three are still focused to investigate.

Authorized statement by the official says:

“Protecting consumers is an important objective of the KSA. Participants in games of chance from providers without a license are not guaranteed a fair game. Nor is it possible to monitor the participation of vulnerable groups, such as young people.”
