The major Australian supermarket chain Woolworths has stated that it will reinstate purchase limits for shoppers as the news of the lockdown caused panic among the populace. The supermarket has declared that the purchase limits will come into effect on the 19th of November.

South Australia will be locked down for six days, and upon hearing the news of the new measures, the people have flocked to supermarkets, grabbing items left, right, and center. All across the state, the shoppers have been forming lines, waiting in front of the supermarkets. By imposing these limits, Woolworths hopes to give all customers fair access to fresh food and essentials.

Woolworths’ SA general manager Karl Weber hopes that customers understand that now is the time to buy only the most essential goods, without overspending.

“As an essential service, our supermarkets will remain open to support our customers’ food and grocery needs. We have plenty of stock, which will continue to flow to stores from our distribution centers,” Mr. Weber said.

He added:

“We ask our customers to adhere to all social distancing and hygiene measures while shopping in our stores. We will have health and safety ambassadors at the front of every store to wipe down trolleys and hand sanitizer readily available for our customers. We ask customers to treat our team and each other with respect as we work through this unsettling time.”
