Spelinspektionen, the gambling regulator of Sweden, has proposed stronger advertisement regulations in the country. The regulator body has put forward plans to restrict excessive gambling advertising. It also advocates for the formalization of a partnership deal with the country’s Konsumentverket consumer agency.
The news plans will split responsibilities between the two institutions as well as formalize the forms of communication and consultation.
The regulator did not specify a limit to the amount or duration of advertising, but gaming operators were asked to contact Konsumentverket to ensure that they are advertising with moderation.
Operators that will be found breaching regulations could face an official warning, financial penalty or, in the worst case scenario, revocation of their licenses.
“A violation of the requirement of moderation is typically considered to be serious. The sanction that may be applicable in an individual case depends on several different factors, such as how long the infringement has been going on,” the regulator said in a statement.
“The clarity we achieve with the agreement benefits the supervision as we ensure that important issues do not end up between the two entities,” explained Patrik Gustavsson, Chief of Operations at Spelinpektionen.
