drowsy driving is something that adults battle the most. Actually, teenagers are the ones who are prone to tiredness, drowsiness and fatigue behind the wheel. Younger people doesn’t mean they have more energy. In reality majority of fatigue-related accidents involve young drivers ages 25 or younger. That’s because as a teeneager they’re supposed to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. But because of homework, extracurricular activities and work only 1 in 5 of them get that much sleep on weeknights.

Signs of sleepiness or drowsy driving are yawning most of the time, unable to keep your eyes open, difficulty in holding your head up, daydreaming while on the wheels, drifting into another lane and most of the time missing road signs or driving past turns.

If you’re experiencing these symptoms while driving, it’s time to stop somehere to get coffee or other drinks to wake you up. But if you really feel sleepy then pull over to a safe place and take a quick 15-20 minute power nap. It may sound silly especially if you’re in a hurry but it’s worth your time for the sake of safety. Some people just take it for granted and overestimate their ability to deal with it. As much as possible don’t fight through exhaustion or tiredness if it’s affecting the way you drive. If you don’t have enough strength and focus to drive then let other people drive for you.

Dealingwith drowsiness while already driving is really important. As much as possible, you don’t want to get involve into a vehicular accident. There are some ways on how you can keep the problems happening in the first place. Try to follow the tips below in order to prevent from fatigue and drowsiness to happen:

  • Better get to bed early to make sure you have a good and full night sleep.
  • Make an effor to set bedtime so you’re not distracting your body’s internal clock.
  • As much as possible take short nice naps during the day when you feel you need them.
  • Keep away from caffeine consumption especially if it’s almost your time to go to sleep.
  • Drive moderately and defensively. Also, be aware because there are some drowsy drivers on the road too.
  • Ask someone to drive for you if you feel too weak and tired to drive at the end of the day.

In addition, there are some things that you need to avoid while you’re behind the wheel. First, driving when on medication because it definitely causes drowsiness. Second, try to avoid driving at night, at times when you should be in bed and asleep. Lastly, driving on your own especially if it’s a long drive.

I know that it’s not easy to follow these tips, however it can keep you safe and other motorists as well. Bear in mind that proper amount of sleep is important, so rest up to make you feel better.
