Moving to a new city with family or friends can be hard but moving to a new city alone can be much harder. Without your loved ones, you might feel lonely, scared or depressed. But it doesn’t have to. We’ve come up with some great tips if you’re moving to a new city alone:
- Have a map of the new city
Yes you can use Google Maps on your phone but always remember that there might be some parts of the city that have little or no mobile phone service like on subways. It’s better to be prepared to avoid problems. Actually, you don’t need to take the map with you all the time. Just keep it somewhere you often see like your fridge. Your map can help you become familiarize with the area.
- Check the area
Look around and visit some places so that you will become familiar with the community. Know what areas are safe and what areas to avoid. Also you may ask the locals where the best place to explore and what restaurants are popular.
- Try Co-Living
If you’re new in the city and would like to meet new people, you can try Co-living. Co-living is a modern housing where residents usually have their own bedroom and bathroom but will share common areas like kitchen and living spaces. It will give you a chance to meet new friends and get to know them. In Co-living, they offer fun events and even outings for the residents to get to know each other.
- Only pack your important belongings
One stressful thing to do when moving to a new place is packing. So if you’re moving alone, it’s better to pack things that are only essential to you. Packing too much can be hard because when you arrive in your new city there’s no one to help you unpack your things. Also, a move to unfamiliar place is a chance to start over that’s why you have to take advantage of it. Try to donate some of your stuff to organizations and charitable institutions.
