Spurs are in talks to sign Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.
The Spain U-21 midfielder impressed during his country’s successful campaign in the recently concluded Euro U-21 Championship in Italy, where he provided two assists en route to the final.
But Ceballos would like a loan move instead of a permanent leave from Spain. A short-term deal would also work for Spurs at this stage due to Ceballos’ high release clause plus the fact that he has four years left on his contract.
Liverpool are also keen on the midfielder and are reportedly ready to make a £45m bid.
“I think [Zinedine] Zidane will have seen the tournament,” said Ceballos after Spain U-21s’ win over Germany U-21s in the final. “But we all know what he thinks.
“I would like to try out something new: next year, my goal is to play 40 games and play in the Euros.”
Ceballos joined Madrid from Real Betis in a £16.2m (€18m) deal in 2017.
