Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa fight has been scheduled the same one fight four times. They have however verbally accepted to a bout at UFC 241 and later on Tuesday evening, UFC officials announced the fight.
What we know is that previously, UFC has booked this fight in November, January, and April. On April 27, Romero and Costa were expected to headline UFC Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, due to Costa’s pending anti-doping violation case with USADA and the New York State Athletic Commission, he was removed from the card and was replaced by Jacare Souza.
Paulo was eventually suspended for six months for two prohibited uses of intravenous infusion in 2017 but had since then completed his suspension.
Costa told ESPN that Yoel Romero needed to understand that was personal. He further said Romero was a liar and doubted if he was a Soldier of God. He wondered how one could call himself a Soldier of God if he were spreading gossip. Costa said that Yoel was a soldier of the devil for spreading lies and he was going to pay, and that was the time for him to pay.
Abraham Kawa who is Yoel manager told the publication that they had been offered that fight four times by then and they accepted it four times. He said, “We couldn’t fight all three previous times because Costa was suspended.” Kawa noted that they were hoping there were no suspensions that time and they could fight. He stated that Yoel is rejuvenated and feels better than ever. He is a man on a mission and wants to win that belt.
