Ukraine readies for Casinos near Black Sea region

Is Ukraine going into a new path under President Vladimir Zelensky? Well, there might be a political debate on that but as far as authorized gambling is concerned; there might be some good news for the Ukrainians. The Comedian turned Ukraine President indicated that Ukraine might develop a particular type of gambling in a particular area. The government wants to bring the only land-based gambling only. The area near the Black Sea, in and around Odessa, which was once a tourism center, is back in the focus. The government is planning to bring the casinos back to the Five Star Hotels. The idea is to promote and increase the tourism cluster in that geography. However, online gambling and Sports Betting may remain officially banned in Ukraine even after that.

The erstwhile “Red Riviera” of the Soviet Union has always been a special tourist destination. It was not long ago, Odessa used to attract many tourists from Russia, but once the conflict broke out in the Eastern part of Ukraine, tourism has slumped in Ukraine.

The gambling, sports betting and casinos are officially banned in Ukraine. In 2009, the country prohibited the casinos. Even though there was a draft that was brought in 2015, no progress was made. President Zelensky was in Turkey just across the Black Sea. He mentioned that Ukraine and Turkey want to grow together. It is however unclear, whether Ukraine wants to see casinos in Turkey as well. Same as Ukraine, Turkey does not have casinos and neither Turkey President Erdogan has a plan about it.

Ukraine has a huge market for gambling and casinos. Local authorities often disrupt land-based gambling and online gambling. Authorities recently busted five land-based gambling, near Khmelnytskyi and Kiev region. If the new gambling rule is passed in Ukraine, then Casino would find a place once again near the Black Sea.
