Uzbekistan is considering interesting tactics in order to aid the improvement of football, among other sports. The country has decided to allow bookmaker activity from 2021, hoping that this will attract additional interest in sports.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan, has approved the decree that will allow bookmaking and attract foreign investors and fans to invest in country’s sports. This document also introduces Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in football league games. This new document has also approved a development plan for Uzbek football until 2030.
Football is the number one priority, and Uzbek officials are hoping to gain resources that will allow them to open sports schools for children. They also plan to build new stadiums and improve the overall state of football institutions in the country.
There are talks that Uzbek officials plan to legalize sports betting to promote football, but for now, these are only rumors.
