A ticket sold in Wisconsin matched all winning numbers in the Powerball drawing to hit the third largest jackpot in U.S lottery history. The winning numbers were 16, 20, 37, 44, 62 and the Powerball number 12.
A statement released by the lottery officials said,
“Due to strong ticket sales, the jackpot climbed to an estimated $768.4m at the time of the drawing with a cash option of $477.
It adds, “The lucky ticket holder will have the choice between an estimated annuity of $768.4m, paid in 30 graduated payments over the next 29 years or a lump sum payment of $477m.” Both options are before taxes.
It was initially estimated to be the 4th largest jackpot. The winner has up to 180 days to come out and claim the prize, Wisconsin Lottery Director Cindy Polzin said. The state law does not allow a jackpot winner to stay anonymous.
The winner can actually purchase 39 of the world’s most expensive car, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire.
And even if you didn’t win, you could also be lucky.
“Participating lotteries are reminding players to check their tickets for one of the nine ways to win. In Wednesday’s drawing alone, more than 5.4 million tickets won prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million,” the countrywide Lottery Association said.
Seven other tickets matched all five white balls, however, missed matching the red Powerball to win a $1m prize.
The Powerball is played in 44states, including Washing D.C., the U.S Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico
