The Kangwon Land Inc casino in South Korea reopened its doors to the public, allowing its customers to enjoy its services again. However, the reopening is being done with a limited number of players in response to the government’s sanitary measures.

After closure orders for the coronavirus pandemic expired on monday, Kangwon Land reopened its gaming facilities but with limitations. Only a maximum of 68 seats are allowed in the VIP lounge, although the gaming areas can accommodate up to 750 people.

However, the operator issued a statement on its website stating that this limitation could be changed.

The first closure of Kangwon Land occurred in february when the country decided to block its borders and adopt containment measures due to COVID-19. Then in may the casino was opened for VIP players, although it had to close again in august when the number of infections increased significantly in the country.

Despite being the highest-earning casino in all of South Korea, Kangwon Land has suffered from the closures. Following the may and august closings the property posted a loss of KRW62.7 billion ($ 54 million).

According to a casino revenue projection for this year published in October, Kangwon Land gresos revenue will decline 67% from 2019, estimated at KRW498 billion ($ 430 million).

Although the infections in the country have decreased. As of october 13, only 102 new cases have been reported and a total of 24,805 so far this year. Such a low figure could lead the country to gradually return to normalcy.

South Korea allows meetings, and entertainment venues such as clubs, bars and karaoke rooms have been authorized to reopen. The congregations in temples are limited to 30% of their capacity as they were responsible for the increase in infections in august.

That is not to say that the country has won the battle against covid 19, because the new 12 cases really represent a rebound compared to the previous week. The new infections were contracted in hospitals, gatherings of friends and foreign visitors.

If Kangwon keeps contagion at bay with the security measures adopted, it could perhaps increase the number of players. Unless there is a new wave of infections in the country.
