U.K’s Arena Racing Company has announced its intention to shut down permanently Belle Vue Greyhound racing stadium, stating that it is no longer commercially viable to keep the place open.
On the 10th of June, racing was postponed at the venue a week after it resumed following shut down due to COVID-19 – with the firm stating that it is no longer an economical option to keep the place running.
Following intensive consultations regarding the Arena’s future, it was decided that it should be closed and have all staff go home immediately. The firm noted that the Arena relies mainly on attendance to operate, and the COVID-19 pandemic has had its toll on the venue. Racing without an audience will not be able to keep it running financially.
Since it is uncertain when attendance will resume, the firm stated that after extensive consultations, it had no other option but to close it down.
