Brooks Koepka and Brooke Henderson have all reasons to smile as each took home ESPY award for best male and female golfer.
Koepka won the award, beating out Tiger Woods, Francesco Molinari and Justin Rose while Henderson edged out Sung Hyun Park, Ariya Jutanugarn and Jin-Young Ko.
This is not the first time Koepka has defended his title, in 2018 he successfully defended his PGA Championship after winning at Bellerive, finished runner-up at the Masters in April, and also at last month’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, coming up just short of the three-peat since Willie Anderson in 1905.
Koepka is nominated for Best Male Athlete along with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts.
Similarly, it wasn’t Brooke Henderson’s first award. Henderson, the 8th-ranked player in the women’s Golf Rankings, became the all-time Canadian winner with her ninth victory after taking home the title in last month’s Meijer LPGA Classic. She also has won at the Lotte Championship and the CP Women’s Open in the previous year.
